How Much Exercise Do I Need?
Any type, any amount, any intensity, anything that gets you moving counts. You don’t need to go for a three hour bicycle ride. In order to get general health benefits, you don’t need a high intensity exercise program.
If your lifestyle has been sedentary for a long time, you are better off starting slowly to avoid injuries to your muscles and joints. Walking is a great way to get you moving regardless of your age.
Once you decide to get off your couch and go for a walk, be sure you have:
A pair of comfortable shoes with adequate support
Thin loose-fitting clothing for free movement
A pedometer so you can track your steps
That’s all it takes to go for a 15-20 minute walk and you will be on your way to building a habit towards the 10,000 steps daily needed to be healthy.
